I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike

Yay! My mom got me a bicycle as an early birthday present! If you’ve been following my blog, you know I was wicked excited about it. And another part that is exciting is that this is something totally different, which is what I’ve been trying to do with my life right now. Changing one “petal” at a time! I feel like I accomplished something!

Ain’t it purty? Childhood me is going “PURPLE!” as that was my favorite color then.

So, I haven’t ridden a bicycle in probably 20 years, and it’s been even longer since I rode one with foot brakes instead of hand brakes. I can’t add video to my blog, so if you would like to see the first moments of me riding a bike, check out my story on Instagram (frazzleddaisy). Oh man, saying that makes me feel like a very old person trying to be hip. YOLO! or something. (Credit goes to my mom for filming my first moments on this bike.)

OK, so, I remember that I absolutely have to start with my right foot on the pedal, so getting the pedal in the right position was hilarious. I think the seat is a little too high up, so I’ll have to fix that. I also had some problems steering because what am I even doing, hahahaha. But, I did not fall! I almost did, though. I rode down the street, had a heart attack when I saw a car and somehow didn’t crash when I forgot how to use the brakes. I wish I had a GoPro camera to film that, but maybe not because I may have said some words that I can’t type here.

Don’t worry, I strapped the helmet on correctly after this selfie.

So, all in all, it was just SO MUCH fun. I think I’m going to have to pace myself, though, because I was really nervous about the steering and hills are daunting. The wind in my face was glorious! And wow, what a workout on my legs! I think they’re going to fall off. But, but, but, but I am SO EXCITED about having a bike and the fun exercise it will provide and especially one huge thing: IT DIDN’T HURT MY KNEES. Oh, I was so worried about that, but I didn’t feel a thing in my knees! YAY!

Oh, and on a side note, it was really weird to wear a helmet. Why, back in my day, we didn’t need helmets — and I was really lucky I didn’t fall on my head the numerous times I did crash. Wear a helmet.

Until next time!
