I did not get very much sleep last night. I don’t usually have a problem sleeping, but I just could not fall asleep last night.
I was just talking about insomnia with a friend of mine the other day, so maybe it was the power of suggestion, haha. No, I want to assure that friend that was most definitely not the reason. I know that it was because I had a super stressful, extra busy night at work. My brain decided to skip my shift apparently, and I just kept having a lot of issues that I never normally have. When I went to bed, I ended up overthinking and analyzing and cringing at everything I had done — and none of it was that bad, it was just one of those rare days. Because of all that, I just couldn’t fall asleep.
I have suffered from insomnia in the past, especially after my dad died. My solution, since I couldn’t afford therapy or anything, involved SpongeBob. Yes, good ol’ reliable SpongeBob. I would put in a DVD when I went to bed and fall asleep listening to the show. I have seen the episodes so many times that I could picture it in my head while listening to it. I filled my brain with SpongeBob instead of the plethora of stresses of the day/week/month/year.
I used this tactic for a couple of years, actually. And it worked. I stopped doing that when I moved here mainly due to the fact that I now have cable. So, I would fall asleep listening to “Forensic Files” instead, haha. Something about that narrator’s voice is so soothing. But as part of my effort to change myself, I have not had the TV on at all when falling asleep. The TV would help me fall asleep, but it would tend to wake me up when the show or an ad would just get crazy loud. So, I’m staying asleep with the TV off, which is definitely nice. And I’ve found that — for the most part, anyway — I don’t need the TV on to fall asleep.
Last night I kept almost falling asleep, but that surge of anxiety would pop me right back awake. I maybe got four hours of sleep last night. Hopefully, I won’t have an issue tonight. I want to get up early tomorrow so I can get my new bicycle! I’m so excited about that!
Until next time! When I will hopefully write about my new bicycle!
